After 3 FIM NAMSSA National races since the IRGPXIV in April, Honda’s Jakob Sablaya (Honda PH Triumph JT Project M) has been giving a strong challenge to 2021 USRA star and multiple IRGP winner Eane Jay Sobretodo (WF-VMan/ANGKAS-Kixx) in Tarlac and in Porac in the Motul Super Underbone Sealed GP.

The calm before the storm

Sablaya’s tuner Mikki Torres of Project M has been working hard tuning the Honda Supra GTR 150i to cope with the speed of the VMAN Raider of Sobretodo, a bike that has been the standard of the Sealed Underbone category since its inception in 2018.

Cavite IR Speedrome was fast!
Cavite IR Speedrome had plenty of long, wide and smooth straights with plenty of run-off

Last Sunday during the Cavite GP at the  IR Speedrome in Silang, the Honda Supra GTR finally came good and was able to set the
fastest lap time of 23.8s to claim Honda’s first Motul Super Series Pole Position.

The race was one of the most exciting race of the season so far with Sobretodo and Sablaya nose to tail from the start. Sablaya had a great take off but lost the lead. He then kept Sobretodo honest by pressuring him every inch of the race. Sablaya trying different lines in almost all the corners in a bid to take the lead. Many times, the Honda seemed to take the Suzuki on the exit but Sobretodo always finds a way to stay ahead going into the next corner.

Never giving each other an inch!

In an exciting race like this where the bikes and riders are obviously equal on this particular track, it will always go down on the final lap.

That critical moment happened at the double chicane. Sablaya made a lunge in the first and was side by side going in to the 2nd part as Sobretodo immediately defended. Because of the speed Sobretodo missed the final part of the chicane and went straight. He crossed the finish line first on track with Sablaya following.

The ensuing incident went by so fast that Race Direction and NAMSSA had to stop the race in order to extract and review the video. After deliberation, they handed a penalty to Sobretodo for missing the chicane and had to give the position back to Sablaya.

It was a very dramatic finish to a very exciting race. Initially both parties had immediate heated reactions. But after a while, sportsmanship prevailed between the two great riders and teams. Sablaya and the Honda Supra GTR 150i claimed their first Motul Super Series win and first FIM NAMSSA National road race.

Eane Jay Sobretodo (WF-VMan/ANGKAS-Kixx)

Although Sobretodo was relegated to 2nd, nobody can question that he and his bike still has the speed to dominate and defend the Motul Super Underbone Sealed crown. With just two National Super Series races done and four more to go, it will be exciting.

Sylvester Ramirez (SR Moto Garaje Cebu)

Meanwhile, third place’ is Cebu rider Sylvester Ramirez (SR Moto Garaje Cebu) Ramirez has joined 2 Luzon Divisionals so far and has amassed a sizeable pts total since scores of visting riders have a 1.5 time multiplier.

We can’t wait for the race!

All smiles on the podium after an exciting and emotional race.
