Mission accomplished! Timothy Joseph “TJ” Alberto and the Ducati Access Plus Racing Team jumped back in front of the points race to claim the Expert and Overall Championship title after bagging two first place finishes in the season finale of the 2022 Philippine Superbike Championship (PSBK) at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) last Sunday, November 13. With the win, the 25-year old racing prodigy is now the 2021-2022 PSBK back-to-back champion!

Alberto came in the final leg with a 14-point deficit after a crash in the 5th leg, after being clipped from behind by fellow rider Dashi Watanabe, at the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC) last October 2. Coming in the 6th and final leg, the team knew that they need to come up with a plan to secure the title, so they called up Ducati official test and development rider Lorenzo Zanettito come in the race as a third racer alongside Lawrence Macalinao to help improve the performance of their Ducati Panigale V4 R and acquire vital insights on how to further better Alberto’s performance on the track.

Zanetti’s experience and racing IQ was quickly put on display as he set a new CIS lap record of 1:49.408in the qualifying round. The Italian veteran racer’s presence didn’t just challenge his teammates to be better but also pushed everyone in the race to perform at their peak, clocking in sub 1:50 time lap times.

In the final race, Alberto clocked in at 1:49.944 to get P1 and secure the 2022 PSBK Championship, while Zanetti lands at P2 with 1:49.661 and Marvin Mangulabnan finishes at P3 with a time of 1:50.024.

Other Ducati riders also took home big wins. In the PSBK Intermediate Class, Alberto’s teammate Lawrence Macalinao bagged the Overall 1st runner up title. Angeles City Ducati Club’s Manuel Chu took home the PSBK Overall Masters Class Championship. In the Pirelli Cup, Pampanga’s own, Jan Timbol dominated the Super A Class to take home the Overall Championship, while Tofu Guzman also bagged the Overall Naked Class title. In the Ducati Cup, Club 200’s Ren Sy was hailed as the 2022 Rider of the Year and Expert Class Champion.
