Gerard Magsaysay, a health safety environment supervisor from Del Pilar, San Pascual, Batangas once dreamt of owning a fully customized bike, having the thought, “Kaya ko kayang bumuo ng isang maangas na motor?” (Can I build a badass motorcycle?). With enough courage, he decided to carefully and creatively start building his dream bike in September 2020 and the 2019 NMAX is his first and only choice as the base motorcycle.

367666785_2729361133873026_4789672027277810962_n With the Yamaha NMAX having a strong appearance and good machine engine, Gerard also known as Boss M knew that this project of custom-building bike is possible. With the help of Team KWORKZ Cuenca, Batangas and MKShop custom and building in San Pablo, Laguna, he was able to develop and make his dream a reality.

367666070_1197042017630252_5053582155138972348_n “Batangueños are known for being anxious, giving me the idea of naming my custom bike “Maligalig”, a name that I wasn’t expecting to be known in the motorcycle show industry,” Gerard recalled.

368410022_621847673371181_8248143322263208483_n For Gerard, building this project was like a roller coaster ride. There were really a lot of doubts and uncertainties. “It was really all about the usual dream of owning a bike  and to ride it when going into different Lomi houses. With the right decision that I and my team made, we joined different motor show competitions around my municipality. Joining these kinds of events somehow gave me a fulfilling experience that even if we don’t gain that much when it comes to the monetary aspect of the competition, we are on the other hand experiencing happiness and joy by winning it,” he shared.

368557363_1040957197264485_6270577428336662412_n Gerard believes that building “Maligalig” is a never-ending process. From 2022 up to the present, this project has been consistent. Finding quality and high-end parts that will best suit the vision they have is the hardest part of making and creating this project. He stated, “There are a lot of trials and errors that we have to risk just to know what will work best for its modification. There are times that the seller of our needed motor parts is rude and unpolite. Delays in the delivery of stocks and materials were also experienced. I remember one time when we joined “Lapagan Nights of Motorcycle.” It was a memorable one because we got the needed part exactly on the day of the competition, and luckily, we bagged trophies at the event. Tiring for some, but no one can ever explain the feeling that I have every time we win this friendly and creative competition of modified bikes.”

367639931_684223846561329_2831692319401185228_n Creating “Maligalig” is a dream turned into a hobby and is now a passion for Gerard. He never thought he would reach this far in building a customized bike, from changing and buying a small piece that he already considered a modification to fully purchasing and changing its motor parts from color, body, cover, and engine until he came to the realization that he has reached beyond his dream and expectation. Money has never been an issue when it comes to building the concept that he has in mind. “I only have this thought of happiness that I always achieve every time my team and I are able to attach the ideas that we have in our minds. This hobby has brought me peace and happiness; it has provided me extra time to enjoy life with my friends, family, and wife, who is very supportive of all of my decisions. I was also able to create a good team and relationship among my colleagues in this kind of field. I am not only doing this because I want to; I am doing it because it gives me room to reach more people and inspire others who once had a small dream like mine,” he added.

367651898_274993248597950_3226456320452682319_n To his fellow builders and motorcycle enthusiasts, Gerard has this message. There is nothing bad in making your dreams bigger and wider, as long as you put efforts into it, dedicate your time, and follow your passion as your heart says. There is nothing impossible, and you’ll always get the chance to achieve and make your dream motorbikes a reality.”

367660531_323722103338855_5941484965670856133_n Gerard does not really have any future plans for my “Maligalig”. Come what may, as they say. Maligalig is not just a motorcycle; it is also a representation of memories and experiences that he has been through, and for him that is what matters most as of now. He also expressed his gratitude, “First of all, I would like to thank God for providing me with good health to work and achieve this kind of project. The second is to my good friend and great builder, Kervin, and to Team Maligalig for helping me build the concept and ideas along this journey. To our supporters, friends, and colleagues who share their knowledge and expertise in this field, and most especially to my wife, Baby Jovie C. Magsaysay, your unending support and effort are very much appreciated. Maligalig will always be our greatest piece of memory. Thank you, Mhie!”
