From Mechanic tO IRGP Champion! Lawrence John Acay Soars High with Faito KOSO Denoo DE69

Lawrence John Acay has gone a long way since joining grassroots club races in 2022. Now, the rider dubbed “The Mechanic” has another title to be called and this is “IRGPXVI Scooter Trophy Champion”.
The mechanic turned racer from Marikina had a superb 2022 wherein he was hailed as the All Scooter Beginner Open Champion in the IR Northern Club Races. In 2023, Acay continued racing with the support of the Faito KOSO Denoo DE69 racing team in the national MotoIR and Motul Super Series races.
Acay along with teammate Eunice Sta. Ana were the racers of Faito KOSO Denoo DE69 in the Alpinestars IRGPXVI TOP 1 Synthetic Oil Scooter Trophy which featured novice and beginner riders. He showed excellence right in the qualifying and gave his team high hopes after getting the pole position. On race day, Acay did not disappoint as he made sure to cross the finish line first and had a five-second margin of victory much to the jubilation of his Faito KOSO Denoo DE69 racing team. Fastest race lap was also courtesy of Acay. It was Acay’s first IRGP championship title and his skills plus the great support of his team were highlights of a great racing season culminated by a coveted championship title.
Second to finish the 12-lap race was Urielle Jirone “Yuri” Olayvar of Race Power ID Helmets / AgnatYolac Racing Team. Olayvar had a remarkable performance in IRGPXVI and he also bagged the TOP 1 Synthetic Oil Juniors Trophy Champion title awarded to 21-year-old and below highest finishing racer in the Scooter Trophy category.
Grabbing the last podium spot was TWPO Project Fi racer Kervie Bergania followed by youngster Renzzy Gabrielle “Nunoy Kidlat” Vigo of SGK Racing Team. Fifth placer was Dad’s Garage 4S1M rider JM Inguito while Sumulong 4S1M KC99 racing team’s Dharren de Guzman finished in sixth place. Acay’s teammate Eunice Mae Sta. Ana crossed the finish line seventh. Unfortunately not able to finish the race were Gulf 323 rider Jonher Espina from Cebu, JM Malonzo of V-tuning / Agnat Racing Team and TWPO Project Fi riders Lieric dela Viña from Bacolod and Ronald “Uno” Galzote.
Best Team award in the TOP 1 Synthetic Oil Scooter Trophy was given to Faito KOSO Denoo DE69 racing team and Acay’s mechanic Gabriel Mayo was also recognized courtesy of Best Mechanic Award sponsor JTEKT. Winner of the MDAP Manufacturer’s Award in the IRGPXVI Scooter Trophy class was Yamaha Motor Philippines.
