Nicolò Bulega’s Sunday (June 15) got off to the worst possible start. Starting from pole position in the Superpole Race, the Italian rider crashed at the first corner due to a manoeuvre by Bassani that was deemed irresponsible by Race Direction.

Starting from tenth on the grid, the Italian rider moved to second place on lap five, but the gap to Razgatlioglu was now unbridgeable.

Alvaro Bautista had a great Superpole Race (P5), which allowed him to start from the second row. The Spanish rider’s race pace was impressive, allowing him to finish on the podium.

‘I gave it my all in Race 2. Toprak seemed to have better pace, but it’s impossible to speculate on what I could have done if I had started alongside him. Bassani hit me at the first corner of the Superpole Race with a manoeuvre that I find difficult to understand. I think more attention needs to be paid to this. I lost some crucial points, but the season is still long.’

“I’m happy with this result. It was a challenging weekend during which I never found the best feeling. The very high temperature prevented me from riding as I would have liked. We’ll see what happens at Donington.”
