14-year-old Carlsen Solis has successfully debuted in the MAM Malaysian Superbike Championship as a wildcard rider in the MSBK 250 B class at the fourth round of the series held at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia from December 13-15, 2024. He is the first and only Filipino to race in the MSBK 250 so far.
On Wednesday, December 11, Carlsen unfortunately experienced high fever and had to recover until Friday morning. He missed his scheduled training on Thursday but felt better on Friday morning and was able to join Practice 1. On board his Honda CBR250RR, Solis had a best lap time of 2:40.220 in the free practice session on December 13 despite his limited track time. He crashed in his second lap during Practice 2 as he was still recovering from fever. The next day he was able to register 2:36.655 in qualifying. He was 9th among 19 riders of the MSBK 250 B class.
It was a tough MSBK 250 grid with 38 riders (class A and class B combined). Race 1 which had 8 laps saw a good performance from the Filipino rider as he managed to finish in P7 out of 19 MSBK 250 class B riders. He was also able to improve his lap time and was close to 2 seconds faster than his qualifying time.
With this great result, Carlsen expressed, “Thank you to all who supported me, this achievement is all for you! Hopefully, it will also be a good result tomorrow. We will be fighting for P3!”
Race 2 will be held on December 15 at 1:10 pm and will have 8 laps as well. Supporting Carlsen in his race in Malaysia is his father Roger Solis, team manager Carlo Calderon and members Ronald Suarez and Danny Villaflores. Coaching Carlsen was Malaysian racer Ramdan Rosli. Iman Aziz and the rest of the RACE ON crew are helping Carlsen in his MSBK 250 race weekend.
Carlsen Solis is competing full season in the Malaysian Superbike Championship in 2025. He started racing in 2023 and was a standout in the Motul MotoIR Youth Cup. In 2024, he had a good campaign in the Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup and was the champion of the Super Sport (SSP) SP class in the MotoIR Championship with the support of his Dad’s Garage-4S1M Racing Team. He was also a double podium finisher in the Alpinestars IRGPXVII where he raced in the Super Sport Bike (SSBK) and SSP categories.
