Motorcycle hailing app ANGKAS has donated 1000 motorcycle protective shields for frontliners. These are donated to IATF and JTF CV Shield. 1000 ANGKAS riders will also be a service for frontliners during this pandemic.

On August 7, Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año and Mr. George Royeca of ANGKAS rode a motorcycle using the protective shield or barrier donated by the company.

The implementation of motorcycle protective shield for back-riding has been criticized by motorcycle riders due to safety concerns. Regarding the recent accidents of those who have used the protective shield, the DILG Secretary has reiterated that the motorcycle barrier is safe and riders should comply with speed limit.

Motorcycle riders have been expressing their disagreement to motorcycle protective shields reasoning that face mask, full face helmet and proper riding gears are enough to prevent transmission of COVID-19.

Because of high number of COVID-19 cases, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal and Cavite are placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine from August 4-18. To address the lack of public transportation, motorcycle back-riding has been allowed in these areas for Authorized Persons Outside Residence who are working. Use of motorcycle protective shield is required.
