Filipino Pride Carlsen Solis Shines in Malaysia!

After debuting at the 250 B class of the MAM Malaysia Superbike Championship in December last year, young Filipino racing star Carlsen Solis is back at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit for a full season campaign in the said category this year.

Armed with the support of his family, fans and SSC – Honda Philippines – GS Battery Racing Team, Carlsen is conquering a tough 32-rider grid of the MSBK category comprised of A and B classes.

He started the Friday May 9 practice sessions on used tire from the final round last year and the team decided on this to warm up first Carlsen on the track and to test his improvements on used tires. The 2nd practice session saw him improved from 2:37 to 2:35 matching his time from last year. The next day, the team fitted new tires on his bike with led to huge improvements, giving him a 2:33:9 on his 2nd lap in qualifying, He continuously got faster, dropping his lap time to 2:33:2 which placed him P3 on his class.

The soon to be 15-year-old proved he is indeed ready for international racing as he secured a P2 finish in Race 1 of the first round held on May 10. Riding the Honda CBR250RR, Carlsen was 15th to cross the finish line out of more than 30 riders and placed second in the MSBK 250 B class with a best lap time of 2:32.295s.

It was indeed an achievement to be cherished as Carlsen showed Filipino riding skills and talent and this is just his second time racing in Malaysia. Accompanied by his ever supportive father Roger Solis, team manager Carlo Calderon and coach Ramdan Rosli, a renowned Malaysian rider himself, Carlsen will be all out again for Race 2 tomorrow while carrying the Filipino flag.

“We finished in P2 in MSBK B Class, I was fighting for P1 until I got tangled with another rider who tried to pass me. Thankfully, it did not affected my race that much. In Race 1, I improved my lap times from 2:33:2 in QTT to 2:32:2. Hoping for another good result for tomorrow’s Race 2. Race 1 Result

Prior to his international racing stint, Carlsen was a stand out in the Motul MotoIR Youth Cup rider development series in 2023 when he started racing. He is also a runner-up in the Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup, MotoIR Super Sport (SSP) SP class overall champion and a double podium finisher in Super Sport Bike (SSBK) and SSP categories of the Alpinestars IRGPXVII in 2024.
