Alberto is First Pinoy in World Championships Class!

After a historic PSBK weekend last Sunday when TJ Alberto won his first National title to become the first Filipino father and son champions together with Toti Alberto (PSBK Champion in 1999), the Alberto family added another one in the history books today with younger Troy Alberto .

Troy Alberto will be the first Filipino to compete in a World Championship Class race series. Alberto was confirmed to ride in the 2022 FIM World Supersport 300 with RT Motorsport by SKM- Kawasaki.

The World Supertsport 300 is the junior feeder class in the production-based FIM World Superbike Championships. It was created in 2017 and us equivalent to the Moto3 class in MotoGP.

Troy will be riding for the official Kawasaki Europe team that won races and finished runner-up in the world championships in 2021 with Tom Booth-Amos. This means that for the first time, we might see a Filipino actually fighting for a road racing world championship!

” Happy to announce that in 2022 I will be racing in the WorldSBK World Supersport 300 Championship with Fusport-RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki! FÜSPORT – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki goes intercontinental with Troy Alberto in WorldSSP300!

After signing Dirk Geiger earlier this month, FÜSPORT – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki is proud to announce Filipino Troy Alberto as Dirk’s teammate in the 2022 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship.

Troy – brother of former FIM Cup Superstock 1000 rider TJ – began riding motorcycles aged 4. Progressing into the national Superbike class in 2016 with immediate success Troy took a brace of pole positions and race wins in 2017, becoming the youngest rider from the Philippines to do so.

He was selected for the Asia Talent Cup, the Asian version of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup which runs alongside the MotoGP and World Superbike Championships, before he switched to the Asia Road Racing SS600 Championship for 2020 and 2021.

Troy Alberto: ‘I’m so excited for the 2022 World Supersport 300 season. It is going to be my first experience to race in the World Championship and I am looking forward to ride with everyone. I’m also so happy to be joining FÜSPORT – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki, especially after seeing what they have been able to achieve the past years. I believe the team is strong and I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together next year.’

Rob Vennegoor – team co-owner: ‘Since Troy’s brother TJ was in the WorldSBK paddock a few years I always kept close contact with the Alberto family. In that time Troy was contracted to Honda in the Asian Talent Cup and Asian Road Race Championships, but I saw Troy’s level growing year by year and we are grateful that we finally can work together. Troy is a very fast rider and it’s also special to bring Asian talented riders into the WorldSBK paddock.’

The first 2022 WorldSSP300 race weekend is scheduled 8 – 10 April at MotorLand Aragon, Spain.
