MAKATI CITY- The Motorcycle Development Program Particpants ( MDPPA) was first established in 1973 as PMMPA to support the Philippine Motorcycle Manufacturing Program (PMMP) implemented by the Board of Investments (BOI). Currently the members include Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki,Yamaha and Kymco. So far for 2016, the MDPPA members have registered a record high 42% increase year on year sales from January to June for a combined total of 544, 699 motorcycle units. The MDPPA members contribute to around 70% of the total Philippine industry sales. The underbone motorcycle remain popular and registered the biggest sales volume but the automatic or scooters continue to have the biggest growth rate. MDPPA President Mr. Rodel Pablo attributed this surge in sales to three main factors which are the improved economy, availability of affordable quality units and the big need for increased mobility. MDPPA’s initial Annual Sales Forecast has increased from 12% to more than 15% and is confident that the MDPPA will surpass more than 1 million units by end of 2016. MDPPA also states that 90% of their sales are CKDs or assembled locally while 5% will be CBU or imported units.
MDPPA also discussed their Road Safety Training Programs and Road Safety Advocacy Rides as well as IP awareness programs. MDPPA also collaborates with government agencies. For 2016 the Philippines has the best growth rates in the ASEAN Region, better than Indonesia which sold the biggest volume in the region.
The MDPPA is also affiliated with the Federation of Automotive Industry (FAIP), Federation of Philippine Industries(FPI), Federation, Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries (FAMI), and International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association ( IMMA).
