Rumors have been circulating that Maverick Viñales will end his contract early with Monster Yamaha MotoGP team at the end of 2021 and move to Aprilia as team mate to Aleix Espargaro when the Italian brand moves up to factory status in 2022.

A leading website reported that Viñales have decided to leave Yamaha for a chance to win with Aprilia, and of course for a big salary as Viñales is believed to be the 2nd highest paid rider in MotoGP.

The Aprilia RS-GP has been on the pace this season and needs another fast and experienced rider to bring it up to race winning level. So far, only Espargaro has been doing the development and running up front.

If this is true, it leaves test rider Andrea Dovisiozo without a chance to join the factory Aprilia and creates another vacant factory seat at Yamaha.

Will the 35 year old Dovisiozo fill it? We doubt it as there are many younger talents out there like Franco Morbidelli, who Yamaha can move up to its factory squad. There are also many Moto2 riders who appear promising and worth investing in for the long term.

Let’s wait for he official announcement if this is true.
