In the opening WorldSBK race of the San Juan Villicu yesterday,  KRT riders Alex Lowes and Jonathan Rea raced bikes sporting iconic  retro color schemes based on the Kawasaki  GPZ900R and Kawasaki ZXR 750 H2

These are two of thecmost identifiable and most succesful Kawasaki street superbike modeks from the 1980’s.

In Racce 1 Rea finishing second and Lowes an impressive fourth in his comeback race from injury.

Jonathan Rea : “The good news for us is that we made the SCX super-soft tyre work for all the race. It was quite consistent, my rhythm was strong and it caused me no problems in the front. That bodes well for Sunday. We will try to make a few extra steps and we can try to get a little bit closer. We need some small tweaks. The special livery is nice – I am loving the get-up! I wish I could use it for the rest of the season because they are quite cool colours, with the green and the blue. I think we will revert back to our old faithful tomorrow and try to enjoy the two races here and get another bag of points.”

Alex Lowes  :  “Villicum is a tough track, lots of changes of direction, and not being 100% fit I knew I would have to really dig deep to be smooth. Luckily the track position helped me because I was behind Bassani for a lot of the race and that made it go a little bit faster. In racing you have to look at your situation and fourth today for me was a really good result. I will try to do better tomorrow but in this special livery for Kawasaki it was nice to have a good solid ride.”
