Our very own McKinley Kyle Paz will compete in his first race in Europe this weekend during the third round of the 2021 FIM CEV Repsol Moto2 European Championship at the Montmelo Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the venue of last weekend’s Catalan MotoGP race.

Announced last month by Yamaha Philippines, he will compete in one of the most popular teamS in the championship, the VR46 Master Camp outfit run by the MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi and the son of Monster Team Yamaha’s Lin Jarvis.

Paz participated in the 8th Yamaha VR46 Master Camp in September of 2019. It was a training program to develop young riding talent run in cooperation with Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Riders Academy. After attending the camp, Paz went on to become the first Filipino FIM ARRC champion in the UB150 class.

He was promoted to the Asia SS600 class in 2020 and raced the first round before the global pandemic struck and suspended all forms of motorsport. In 2021, with the ARRC calendar still unsure, Yamaha Philippines decided to send Paz instead to the European Moto2 Championship instead.

Paz will carry the number 32 in CEV…and yes, the Philippine flag will be properly placed.

Organized by DORNA, the CEV Moto2 Championship is just a step down from the Moto2 and MotoGP World Championships.

It will be Paz’s second time to race a real GP bike with a fully adjustable race chassis. His first time to try a GP bike was on a Moto3 bike during his stint at the Asia Talent Cup way back in 2015.

Paz and YMPH’s Mr. Jordan Cornista left for Italy last week to spend a few days in Rossi’s Ranch at his hometown in Tavulla where they will be based during the racing season season. The two Filipinos drove across to Spain two days ago.
