LRT-2 East Extension Inaugurated today

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the inauguration today July 1, of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 East Extension Project at the LRT Line 2 Antipolo Station in Antipolo City, Rizal.
Joining him is the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade for the long-awaited inauguration ceremony of the project.
The LRT-2 East Extension Project involves the construction of a 4-kilometer extension of the existing LRT-2 System from Santolan, Pasig City to Masinag in Antipolo City, Rizal.
The two (2) additional stations open today – the Marikina Station, which is located in front of Robinsons Metro East and Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall in Cainta, and the Antipolo Station which is located before the Masinag Junction in Antipolo City.
Once operational, travel time between Recto, Manila to Antipolo, Rizal would only be around 40 minutes from its usual three-hour bus or jeepney trip.
“Ngayong tapos na ang 3.8 kilometrong extension ng linya, mas mapapabilis na ang pagbiyahe ng ating mga kababayan mula at patulong Recto sa Manila, at Antipolo Rizal! Mula sa dating tatlong (3) oras na biyahe via land, magiging 40 minuto na lamang ito ngayon,” said DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade
The two (2) new stations will be able to accommodate an additional 80,000 passengers, increasing its daily passenger capacity to 320,000 from its previous capacity of 240,000 passengers.
This project is another integral part of President Duterte Administration’s ‘BUILD, BUILD, BUILD’ infrastructure program which aims to fulfill the mandate and marching order of the President to give the Filipino people a more comfortable and convenient life.
