In the last quarter of 2020, InsideRACING had events participated by the Stand-Up Scooter community in the country. First was the MotoIR Practice Day in November 29 where we first featured Stand-Up Scooter gas riders. This was followed by another event in December wherein a great number of riders both on gas and electric stand-up scooters had fun at the Carmona Race Track. Then last February, during the MotoIR Shakedown event, it was the first time for InsideRACING to hold a race class for Stand-up Scooter riders. The support from the Stand-Up Scooter community and spectators was great and we hope to do more events for these riders in the future.

Recently, there was another reason to admire Stand-up Scooter riders. Aside from riding and racing, these riders have compassion and the hearts to help. Recently, they reached out and teamed up for a project for the benefit of a person with disability.

The joint project of the Gas and Electric Stand-Up Scooter Community which was dubbed as “Person with Dreams” was headed by Mr. Romick Andrew “Nico” Asis of Team Birador and Mr. Tim Vargas of Minimotors Dualtron Philippines. The beneficiary of the project was Mr. Reginald Santos II of San Mateo, Rizal who unfortunately got half of his body paralyzed after an accident while playing basketball.

“Admin po ako sa isang facebook group ng Stand-up Scooter (Parts and Accessories). Napansin ko po yung post ni Redgz kung pwede ba daw lagyan ng gas engine yung wheelchair nya and kung magkano daw ang aabutin. Nagmessage po ako agad para malaman yung sitwasyon nya and napag-isipan ko na gawin itong charity project para sa buong community. Since complicated nga po yung situation nya nagdecide na lang po ako na electric scooter na lang ang ikabit. After I posted this, madami po agad ang nagpaabot ng tulong at umabot din po sa electric scooter community at doon po napansin ni Sir Tim Vargas at nagdonate siya ng brandnew unit ng electric scooter,” narrated Mr. Nico Asis who was also the winner of the Stand-Up Scooter gas race category last February 7.

Together with Mr. Riyam Ocfemia and Mr. Teng Mantilla of Team Birador, Nico visited Redgz to explain the project. A few fabrications were done on his wheelchair with the help of Mr. Joel Borlagdatan of JoPed based in Cainta, Rizal. A fabricated mount was made for the electric scooter to be attached to the wheelchair.

The charity project was done with the support from the following: Electric Mobility Center, Electric Kick Scooter Philippines, Tondopeds, Small Engine Riders, Mandascoot, Makati Pride, Batangas Peds Nation, Ramzy Scooter Works, Giftwillsent Scootshop, RF Pipes, MMCC Pipes, Hyperscoot22, Strands Beard Grower, Motto Marcelo, PWD Portings, JoPed, JPL Customs, Team Gas2s, Mendezpeds and Justin Plug N’ Play Unlimited.

Nico expressed, “I would like to thank the various groups and individuals from the Gas and Electric Scooter Community, Sir Tim Vargas of Minimotors Dualtron, Clark Lasala of Electric Mobility Center, Riyam Ocfemia, Teng Mantilla, Mike Abdulla and Unio Cruz of Team Birador, Sir Joel Borlagdatan of Joped and all scooter groups na sumuporta. Mabuhay po kayong lahat!”

Last March, the modified wheelchair was turned over to its beneficiary. Salute to the Stand-Up Scooter Gas and Electric Community for this charity project. We hope to see you in the track soon!
