Road Linking Mindanao Provinces to completed this year

A road project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) linking the provinces of Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, and Davao del Sur is slated to be completed this year.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar announced this citing DPWH Regional Office 12 (DPWH-RO12) Director Basir M. Ibrahim’s report on the 91.23 percent completion of the ongoing civil works of Datu-Paglas-Colombio-Matanao Road Project.

The project involves the opening and concreting of 23.17 kilometers of road that starts from the municipality of Datu Paglas in Maguindanao and now nearing the town of Matanao Davao del Sur.

The construction of two (2) bridges with a total length of 240 meters is also included in the project, which is yearly programmed for implementation by DPWH-RO12 from 2015 to 2021.

When completed, travel time from Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat to Matanao, Davao del Sur will reduce from four (4) hours and ten minutes to only two (2) hours and twenty minutes.

The improvement in inter-regional connectivity and mobility will facilitate better economic opportunities and easy access to government services, thus, alleviate the lives of those living in the once considered fur-flung communities in the regions of Central Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Locals are already expressing their gratitude to DPWH for providing a much-needed road project in the area. Tirso Enoc, community leader of Barangay Sinapulan in Colombio, Sultan Kudarat, said that the road will be beneficial for local farmers in transporting their produce to market centers.

Meanwhile, Secretary Villar commended the efforts of DPWH-RO12 to expedite construction activities and keep-up from construction restriction last year caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
