Travelling faster and conveniently from point A to point B is as important as arriving safe in our destinations. Sure, we get a kick from the usual slow but scenic back roads while on our way, but often times, if we can take a faster option and more convenient route, there is no doubt that we will steer to it in a heartbeat even if we have to pay a small amount of toll fee.

After all, expressways also do offer amazing views due to the fact that it’s constructed on wide non-populated spaces as much as possible like farmlands, between mountains and even in coasts to make it as short as possible without obstructing existing roads, busy cities and towns.

Like our story on the new bypass and coastal roads, we hope that this article would enlighten you on existing and upcoming projects that would be beneficial for your travel soon. Let us know in the comment section if we missed some.

1. Skyway Stage 3 (MMS)

The Metro Manila Skyway (MMS) Stage 3 Project is an elevated expressway from Buendia, Makati City to the North Luzon Expressway in Balintawak, Quezon City with a length of about 18.30 kilometers. This extension to the existing Skyway( Alabang to Buendia) is on its way to completion and now is almost fully operational. Most of the exits and onramp are finished and with just a few more in underway like the Araneta Northbound entry ramp (81% finished)  and the Quirino Northbound onramp(10% finished).

A major infrastructure project and soon to become part of Cebu’s iconic landmarks, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) will connect mainland Cebu from Cebu City to Cordova town in Mactan Island. To be operated as a toll expressway, the artistically designed 8.5-kilometer CCLEX will have two lanes in each direction and 51-meter navigational clearance for shipping traffic. With its design speed of 80 kilometers per hour, CCLEX is expected to serve at least 50,000 vehicles daily. It is worth also noting that this will be the first expressway outside Luzon.

4. Central Luzon Link Expressway (CLLEX)

CLLEX is a toll-free expressway currently under construction in the Central Luzon region. It will serve as a connector of SCTEX and TPLEX to the currently under construction North Luzon East Expressway (NLEE). CLLEX has two phases and spanning a total of 66.4 kms and the Tarlac City-Aliaga segment is scheduled to open around May 15,2021. The proposed NLEE will span from Commonwealth, Quezon City and will end at Cabanatuan City. Once completed, will decongest the Central Luzon segment of the Maharlika Highway, provide a faster route to Cagayan Valley, create a more efficient trade route between municipalities of Bulacan and Nueva Ecija, and Metro Manila. It will also serve as a water management system, flood and other surface runoff water will be collected and delivered to La Mesa. Currently, DPWH awaits for the remaining documents to be submitted by the MWSS as compliance to NEDA’s instructions. Hopefully we’ll see some development soon.
