Yamaha Celebrates WGP 60th Anniversary

Yamaha Motor Philippines, Inc. celebrates the global milestone of the company of 60 years of racing excellence in the WGP.

If you’re new to the world of racing, the World Grand Prix is what the MotoGP was called many decades ago and in 1961 Yamaha joined this prestigious competition which jumpstarted years of excellence. That dedication, passion, and spirit for racing has swept the globe since then and has inspired countless racers to historic victories.

Yamaha competed for the first time ever 10 days after the company was established, at the third Mount Fuji Ascent Race on July 10, 1955. The newly released YA-1 raced to a dominating victory in its debut.

After experiencing international racing at the Catalina GP in the United States in 1958, Yamaha entered the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix round at the Grand Prix of France in May 1961. Two years later in 1963, Yamaha had its first GP win at in the Belgian Grand Prix, racing an RD56 in the 250cc class. The following year it won their first Rider and Constructor titles with Phil Read’s 250cc class win. Between 1963 and 2020 Yamaha has a total of 511.

In February of 2021, Yamaha announced it will continue to compete in the MotoGP for another five years (2022–2026). A decision that represents its true spirit for racing. Just a few months later, Yamaha won the 2021 MotoGP World Championship with Fabio “El Diablo” Quartararo clinching the victory.  An exemplary performance that showcases Yamaha’s unquestionable desire for victory and timeless dedication to chasing greatness.

And with unwavering passion, commitment, and desire to provide the best for its customers despite any challenge, Yamaha Motor Philippines will be releasing a special WGP 60th Anniversary Edition of the Sniper 155R and Mio Aerox S that embodies its indomitable racing spirit.
