Yamaha Riders Shine Despite Challenging ARRC Season

The final round of the 2024 Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand was an intense showdown for the Filipino riders, this round marks McKinley Kyle Paz’s consistent performance for the year in the Supersports 600cc category for the Yamaha Tekhne Racing Team. Gian Carlo Mauricio and JD Purino, competing in the UB150 category for the UMA Racing MMR Yamaha Philippines Team.

“The Wonderboy” almost made it to the podium with a 5th place finish in Race 1 and 2. Starting from 11th on the grid, Paz demonstrated his consistency and competitive edge, maintaining his standing among the top contenders throughout the season at 7th overall. There is also a cause for celebration because they take home the overall team championship as the Yamaha Tekhne Racing Team edged out the win by 13 points.

Gian Carlo Mauricio, riding solo for UMA Racing Yamaha Philippines for most of the season due to the absence of injured April King Mascardo, had a commendable race. Starting from the 10th position, Mauricio made significant but fell to 11th in Race 1 and a DNF in Race 2. His performance underscored his resilience and determination to prove himself on the international stage, despite a challenging season.

JD Purino, who stepped in as Mascardo’s substitute, found the going tough but showed promise in his debut race. Starting from the 19th position, Purino but could not finish in either race. He displayed adaptability and a strong competitive spirit which was positive indication of what he could bring to the team in future races.

The final round highlighted the depth of talent and determination among Filipino riders, especially considering Mascardo’s absence. Despite the challenges, Paz, Mauricio, Purino, showcased their commitment to the growth of motorsports in the Philippines. The Yamaha Philippines Racing Team will return April 23,2025 for Official Testing at the Chang International Circuit, Thailand where Round 1 begins on April 25-27. Watch out for the next chapter of our Filipino riders as they continue their pursuit for racing greatness and elevating the Philippines in the world of racing.
