Once again, the race season is about to start. Many riders are familiar in racing because of MotoGP, WSBK, IRGP and other local races. Riders dream to become racers and some wants to try riding inside the racetrack and feel the speed and safety of the controlled environment.

Racing season begins and the fans are excited as the teams go crazy preparing and tuning their race bikes. For first time racers, don’t replicate what you see on top racers. Their machines are monsters, hard to handle and for expert use only. Beginner racers should first focus on safety, riders’ proper race gears and the bikes’ technical guidelines. Even if the bike is potentially fast, if the gears and bike failed in the safety check, it is useless.

Here are some steps in building a race bike for beginner racers.

Begin in the beginner/novice class first where the machine regulations are basic in engine setup. Know the rules and restrictions so you know you’re doing it right. Basic race parts are CDI, carburetor, muffler, big bore kit, transmission, race tires and suspension.

Focus on the rear seat height for underbones and footpegs for the scooters before trimming the seat and bending the handlebar. It makes more effect in handling and riding position. More practice before cutting and adjusting the height. Ask and listen to the rider and don’t just do what looks sleek.

Many riders are ignoring the safety of the bike and always focus on the engine setup. All bikes need kill switch installed in the handlebar, not in other areas and it must be within reach by the thumb. Handlebar ends are needed too because it has an important role, it serve as the slider especially in the throttle side. Speaking of the throttle, make sure that it is in smooth operation. No delay and the spring pull back always.

When the bike and the rider are ready, focus on practice and not just in tuning and testing in the street. It’s futile if the bike is fast but the rider cannot ride it the way it needs to be ridden. We all knew the benefits of practice; it develops the rider and more time in tuning and adjusting the right setup for the bike.  Lastly, take off unnecessary weight. It will help more in achieving the potential power of the bike.

Dress the bike in full fairing. Aesthetically, it is pretty and helps on aerodynamics too. Make and leave a good impression in your first race. Even if you will not be a podium finisher, to be a threat to other riders is impressive. Prove that you have the potential to be the next podium finisher. Have more time in practice and engine setup. Not all fast riders get sponsored if they do not act professionally. Always act as a professional rider, team and sponsors will come and follow. Ride safe and see you in the next race.
